The Yankees suffered a disappointing loss last night to the Boston Red Sox. The game was delayed about 2 and a half hours. Phil Hughes came out and allowed a run in each of his first four innings. The Yankees, who trailed 4-0 fought back with back to back home runs off Lester late in the game, but couldn't take advantage of a bases loaded situation in the ninth off Papelbon.
This Yankee team is so plagued with injuries that it is just getting ridiculous. Now Jorge Posada may be seriously injured. He will undergo an MRI today, but he said he felt a "grab" in his hamstring. Losing Jorge would just be another of many huge blows to the Yankees so far this season. They showed last year that is hard to get wins without Posada playing almost every day. Just add him to the list of : A-rod, Bruney, Nady, Marte, Teixeira (bad wrist but playing), Swisher (just got back in the lineup last night). No matter how good a team is, with the amount of injuries they have, its just so hard to put together wins.
The Yankees brought up Alfredo Aceves yesterday and he did very well for them. He showed some promise in long relief, and I'm guessing Girardi wants to keep him around for a little while to see what he has.
Meanwhile, it's good to see some bad blood developing between the Yankees and Red Sox again. I don't like how friendly the teams have been with each other the last few years. Joe Girardi accused the Red Sox first base coach of stealing signs and told him that "someone was going to get hurt." JD Drew was then beamed in the seventh inning.
Joba back on the mound tonight, hopefully we can rock Josh Beckett again.
